Angela Smith Stained Glass ArtistI was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. My journey as an artist began
at a very early age when my Mother showed my sister and I how to dig clay
out of a hill on our Grandparent's farm, mold it and bake it in the sun. Little
did we know that child's play would turn into a lifetime of creativity. Our Mother
always made sure we were learning how to create something. Out of
that came my first business. I went door-to-door selling potholders for $1 to
finance my Barbie doll collection.
During my school years, I was more into drawing than working with my hands.
There were lots of cut classes spent in the Art room. I ended up with a One Man
Show and an Art competition, where I won 3rd place.
In college, my major was Art. It was like a full circle moment because my favorite
class was ceramics. I just couldn't get away from the smell and feel of clay. It was
there that my work was one of the few chosen to display our work at The Kromah
Gallery. Ceramics would also become another business venture, along with my
sister, Cynthia Fardan, where we made and sold Afrocentric Tableware. Our work
has been displayed many places such as the Banneker-Douglass Museum in
Annapolis, The Heritage Museum, and the Maryland Historical Society.
Stained glass became a serious passion after I took a class in 1997. I have always
loved color but it is never as brilliant as when the sun shines through glass. I have
always designed my own work, which makes everything I make truly an original.
As I was honing my skills as a glass artist, my sister was doing the same as a
webmaster. She created my first website and found places she thought was a
good fit for my work. One of those places was Electronic Cottage Gallery. It was
there that the produces of HGTV's Crafters Coast to Coast discovered my glass work.
The show aired in June 17, 2005, a few days after I left my last job. Timing is every
thing!
Additionally, Dragonfly Software, makers of the premier software for stained
glass design, selected my work as its prestigious design of the month for July 2005
and again for September 2009.
My mission is to provide high quality stained glass art at prices that are affordable.
I firmly believe that everyone should have some form of art in their possession. I will
also customize stained glass art work for those with special interests. If you would
